About Reading Room Fund
Through the Reading Room Fund, we’re gathering resources to establish dedicated reading rooms in local, underfunded private community schools that do not already have one, and partnering with them to create and deliver foundational literacy engagement programs. Through these rooms, we aim is to create spaces where young learners can experience joy, liberation, and intellectual growth through learning.
Our Pilot
In our ongoing pilot at Onyx Institution and Vocational Programs in Paynesville, Liberia, we’re working with learners across KI, KII, Grade 1, and Grade 2 to strengthen early literacy through engaging, hands-on sessions. Students participate in activities twice a week in a dedicated learning space designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
Through a focus on phonetics, vocabulary, reading fluency, and comprehension, the program both supports immediate learning gains and generates insights for building a context-informed, evidence-based curriculum long-term. By combining structured practice with adaptive instruction, we aim to nurture a lasting culture of reading and critical thinking among young learners.
